Gas exists throughout the Barnett Shale, the geological formation that lies beneath Arlington and many other cities across North Texas.
However, fracking sites are not distributed equally across the region.
In Arlington, a majority of new gas wells drilled by Total in the last three years, and the only new drill site permitted in more than a dozen years
by the city council, are located in neighborhoods that are overwhelmingly home to people of color and have concentrated poverty.

New drill sites approved in recent years are marked by diamonds with half mile circles around them.
